Seeds. Soup. Smiles.

Family-friendly event!
Date: Sunday, February 9th
Time: 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Location: Beacon Food Forest

Looking for an afternoon of good, messy fun? Come decorate birdhouses, plant peas in our children’s garden plot, and let your little ones dive into the mud kitchen—no dishwashing required! We’ll keep everyone fueled with cinnamon tea, tomato soup, and pita bread because gardening and mud pie-making can work up an appetite. Join us for the laughs, stay for the snacks, and maybe leave a little muddy.

  • Planting Peas:

Planting peas is a great activity for kids—they’re easy to grow, fun to plant, and perfect for this time of year. They sprout quickly, so kids won’t have to wait forever to see the results! Peas are a little reminder of how growth takes time and care, just like anything worth doing. And the best part? They’re tasty, healthy, and so much fun to pick when they’re ready. It’s the perfect mix of hands-on learning and delicious rewards!

  • What to Expect for the Birdhouse Decorating Craft

We can’t wait to see the amazing creations your little ones come up with at our birdhouse decorating station! We’ll have small wooden birdhouses ready to go, along with paints, glue, and fun decorations. Whether it’s bright colors, dark colors, or a wild combination of all kinds of materials, kids can make their birdhouses as unique as they are.

Once the masterpieces are finished, you can:

    1. Take it home: It’s the perfect addition to your garden, porch, or favorite outdoor spot.

    2. Leave it near our garden plot: Add a touch of personality to our shared garden space for everyone (and the birds!) to enjoy.

If you decide to leave your birdhouse in the garden, this is a great opportunity to talk with your child about sharing and being part of a community. You might say something like:

    • “Your birdhouse is so special! By leaving it here, you’re sharing your creativity with others who visit the garden.”

    • “When we leave something here, it’s for everyone to enjoy, and we can all help take care of it together.”

This craft is more than just a fun activity—it’s a chance for kids to connect with nature, express themselves, and learn the joy of giving back to a shared space. We can’t wait to see all the beautiful birdhouses they create!

  • Our mud kitchen is all about letting kids dive into their creativity and explore through play! We’ll have pots, pans, bowls, pretend food, kitchen utensils, and plenty of mud for them to mix, scoop, and stir up their own “recipes.”

This activity is more than just messy fun—it helps kids build fine motor skills, experiment with problem-solving, and learn to work together while sparking their imaginations. Plus, playing with mud and natural elements helps them connect with the outdoors in a hands-on way.

At the end of the day, they’ll head home a little muddy but full of smiles, memories, and maybe even a new favorite activity.

  • We’ll be serving cozy tomato soup, pita bread, and warm cinnamon tea to keep everyone warm and happy. If you’d like, feel free to bring your favorite soup to enjoy or share—maybe even swap recipes with fellow soup lovers! No pressure, though! This is a fun, welcoming community event, and we’re just excited to have you be part of it.

  • This event is all about bringing happiness, building community, and sharing warmth during this chilly time of year. Whether it’s painting birdhouses, planting in the garden, or sharing a cozy bowl of soup, we hope this gathering fills your heart with connection and joy. Let’s come together to celebrate the simple pleasures of nature, creativity, and each other!
