Meet the Team

  • Founder/Lead Educator

Hi, I’m Kayla! I’m a nature-loving explorer with a passion for helping children discover the wonders of the natural world. Whether I’m out in the garden at the Beacon Food Forest, practicing yoga, or spending time with my dogs, I feel most alive when I’m surrounded by nature—overcast days, dirt under my nails, and wind in my hair. I’m also a thrift shop addict who loves finding unique treasures for both my personal adventures and the preschool program.

I admire how children notice the tiniest details—things we adults often overlook. Their curiosity and awe for the small things, like the patterns on a leaf or the sound of raindrops, inspire me every day. I believe in nurturing that sense of wonder and helping kids connect with the world around them through hands-on exploration and play.

Currently, I’m pursuing a bachelor’s in early childhood education to further strengthen my work with young learners. I have years of experience with young children in a variety of preschool settings. I am so glad I decided to pursue my dream and start Sunflower Seedlings Preschool. I aim to create a space where children can thrive, grow, and experience the joy of learning in nature.

I’m a semi-retired nurse with over 30 years of experience, primarily in nursing home care. Throughout my career, caregiving has always been close to my heart—and that hasn’t changed. At Sunflower Seedlings, I feel so grateful to support and nurture the children as they grow, explore, and learn. Being a loving presence in their lives brings me genuine joy.

I’m someone who believes in meeting children with warmth, patience, and a listening ear. Whether it's offering a comforting hug, sharing a laugh, or simply being there when a child needs extra support, I cherish the relationships I build with each child.

When I’m not at the preschool, I enjoy spending time with my family, attending church, and traveling with my husband. I grew up surrounded by nature in Florida and the Philippines, where I attended boarding school, and those early experiences shaped my deep love for sunshine and the outdoors.

It’s a blessing to be part of such a caring, nature-connected community, and I’m honored to play a small role in helping these little ones feel safe, seen, and loved.
